Session 6 - Responsive Web Design
Hello,
Today we are learning what is a responsive web design. For me it is a kind of web conception that allow the user to have an optimal navigation on a website, I mean a webpage.
As we are all of us using more and more different plateforms such as Tablet, mobile phone, or computer. Thanks to RWD, the website you build is adaptable to all the plateforms. It was the case for example when I build a website thanks to wordpress. Here again our blogspost is also adaptable and use all the space available on the surface of the device we are using.

Let's see now an example of Hotel website that is using RWD.

As we can see, we can realize that the website is built differently. For example, the menu button for the mobile browser is at the top on the right, while for the web browser, menu items are already shown at the top.
(I was in charge of updating the website during eleven months when I was at Scribe Hotel).
Here is a link of the website I will convert during the class. It is the Saint James Albany Hotel & Spa, where I am doing extras this year.

Traveler's path to online purchase
Define the customer's path to online purchase
For me the customer path to online purchase is in realty the different stages from the moment the customer express an interest for a good or something intangible to the moment he has bought it.
It is therefore all the different stages between these two actions.

What are the stages in the customer purchase path? How do customers decide to use which ones at different points of their journey?
Here are for me the different stages in the customer purchase path:
- Inspiration (or awareness)
- Researching (or consideration)
- Buying (or booking)
- Experiencing
Depending on the customer habits, and its personality, he will decide to use or unuse different stages.
For exemple, for some of us, inpiration can be directly linked to the buying moment, then there is the experience, and here again, some of us (it is more and more rare) will not share anything.
Depending on the point in their journey, the customer may decide to use different channels as follow:
Depending on the point in their journey, the customer may decide to use different channels as follow:
- Inspiration (or awareness) : the need of buying a good is due to an add seen, TV program, radio, or social media.
- Researching (or consideration) : before buying something most of customers are preferring to compare before buying. They're searching information thanks to online reviews in specialized websites or blogs.
- Buying (or booking) : depending on the way the customer is purchasing he will do online purchase or it can be in-store.
- Experiencing : after the purchase, while the customer is experiencing, some of them will review the good or the service online thanks to blogs or again specialized websites.
Here is for me a good illustration of the customer's path to online purchase, also highlighting the different channels used thanks to a video presentation of the "IBM Omni-channel Order Management".
I hope you will enjoyed this presentation, have a wonderful day !

Midterm Essay
Question: Describe Amazon Go retail experience. How might it affect the hospitality industry? Give 3 examples.
Amazon Go is described as the world's most advanced shopping technology. It is not already open, but if we want, we can get notified directly to their website about the next opening !
The principle is easy, you take exactly what you want in your shopping bag. The sensors linked on each product are detected by all the camera the retail shop is equiped by. And then thanks to their dedicated app, they follow you all around the shop. The best thing is that you do not have to check-out and therefore, you do not have to queue in line and waste time. It is a revolution for the future !
(Honestly, I could be interesting about buying a franchise of these kind shop, it is typically what parisian people love)
- It is common to see in daily life that when you enjoyed an experience you appreciated, you are tending to expect the same experience in other field. So for sure it will affect our industry, guest will expect to come and enjoy their time in hotel without doing all the check-in procedure, as well as leaving the hotel without checking out at the front desk.
- In the same purpose, guests can expect the same modus operandi when they are using minibar. Why not taking a coke without having to fulfill a paper where you have to tick what you have taken. In other hotels, it will help room service department and allow them to save time because they will not have to check all the rooms to know what have been consumed. They will just have to replace what is missing.
- In a same way, for hotel like Courtyard by Marriott (i.e: the one I worked for in Boulogne Billancourt) who does not have room service 24/7, guest will be able to expect having this kind of stuff and like that being able to take something in dedicated professional fridge like the one below. Here again, no need to check-out at any time of the day or the night.
I really think it will help guest in the future. I can't wait to see it developped in many hotels around the world.

For today, we had to look for what is Mobile Guest Service and what is it interesting for customer.
